The Vasai Wedding

I've been recently to a wedding of my cousin Swinburn in Vasai and it was a really wonderful wedding. The three days I spent there were unforgettable and charming. The ceremonies continued even after I had resumed work. Pork vindaloo greeted me when I arrived there and there was booze to wash it down. That afternoon my chair, which was on a slope, toppled over as I leaned backwards to take a sip or two. The chair slid downwards and screeched alarmingly (because of my weight) but it soon came to a halt . I was unfazed and unhurt and partied harder after that. After lunch, I had to fill water in my mouth (being the son-in-law of the village) along with 2 others before pouring kerosene for the Varias, which looks and tastes something like Medu Vada. In the evening, there was a band for the traditional Paani as we danced around the village with water taken from my in-laws well according to East Indian customs.

The wedding reception the day after was equal in excitement and fun. The booze was good and the food awesome. There was dancing and camaderie as we mingled with each other. To think I went all the way to Vasai to meet Sahil from my hometown, Bandra. And there was Rayo, one of the main stars of the recent Bollywood hit, Pyar ka Punchnaama. Rayo's now a relative and it was nice having him around. Yes, it was fun being with Russell, Oberoi, Lysander, Sylvina, Star, Beenoy, Warren, Keeano and Eulreka, Terence, Jeffrey, Rex, Roger, Kinson, Valdis, and all the wonderful Vasaikars and eaqully fun-loving folks from Vakola. Overall, it was an extremely enjoyable wedding!!!

  3. After Lok Pal bill is passed all weddings shall be banned in Vasai, Mumbai and the whole of India. Like Rayo, we are also good actors. Didn't you see Kiran Bedi's acting at Ram Leela maidan. Prior to that ladies used to only act as Sita or Draupati but now they also act as veiled politicians. What a performance by Bediji my heart longs for....Oops!!!

  5. Looks like the wedding was quite a long one. How do you manage to have such long weddings in India? How do you guys find the time?

  7. Doing great. By the way, just to get back to your earlier question. These Indians make time for these long weddings. They slog all year around but when these wedings happen they're on long leave.
